Poetry in Motion joins with Ramble to help students get their words out

Daily News, The (Batavia, NY) - Thursday, July 5, 2007

Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council is hosting a Poetry in Motion event to coincide with the second annual Ramble Music and Arts Fest downtown Saturday.

Based on a similar event organized by Michael Sparling in Perry, Poetry in Motion will highlight the poetry of local Batavia High School students. Poems will be hung in the storefront windows of several businesses that surround Jackson Square.

This year, the poetry was collected from the AP English students of Batavia High's English teacher Thomas Trosey. All works were recently published in the latest edition of Stained Glass, the high school's anthology of poetry.

GO ART! Program Coordinator Patricia Hawley said the event is a "wonderful opportunity" to present the community with a sample of local written works."

"It is ... a sampling of what our young, emerging, artists are doing today," Hawley said. "Based on this year's response from local businesses, I'm hoping that we can continue this event well into the future."

Poetry in Motion will be on display at WBTA, Charles Men's Shop, Main Street Coffee, Suds Puppy, House of K, Adam Miller Toys & Bikes, Optique, Edward Jones, Grugnale's Italian Market & Deli, Joanne Amon, CPA, and Pieces art gallery.
